I'm planning my build for a Daft Punk helmet. I'm doing it from the Tron era, which inclues an LED bar across the visor. You can see an example here:![]()
All I'm looking to do is build a static LED array. Something like this (taken from Volpin):

Lots of people that do Daft Punk helmet lighting include controllers and whatnot to display animations, and this isn't something I'm requiring. I'm simply trying to get an array 6 LEDs tall by ~30 wide to light up continuously. I had imagined I could just wire some sort of series / parallel configuration to a battery pack, but it seems the voltage requirements are too great. To put the 6 LEDs in each stack in series would require 20 V (as far as I understand).
So, I'm kind of stuck. I know that lots of people use Arduino setups to do multiplexing stuff which I think would reduce the power demand, but I honestly have no idea. Plus that all is way over my head right now and probably more complicated than I want. As they say, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing", and I have a concept in my head but have no idea if my approach is even correct.
Can anyone give me some guidance? Even if it's just a thread or YouTube video to check out, I'd really appreciate it.
