Flightsuit Modification / Tailoring Question

I'm a pretty big guy. I'm around 6'2" and 400lbs. I'm working on a Ghostbusters costume and I purchased a Tru-Spec flightsuit to serve as the base for everything.

The largest size you can get is a 3X-regular length. It fits really well everywhere but in the groin and rear-end. It's too short from my groin to my shoulders and nearly splits me in half.

I've noticed this is a common problem with a lot of people who use flight suits in costumes. It's usually fixed by going up a size or switching brands, but I'm at the biggest size they make and other brands don't offer the color I need in the size I need.

So my question is this: Has anyone successfully altered a flight suit to give more room from groin to shoulder? If so, can you offer any tips or suggestions?

It's a sort of unique color and material, but there are a few spots on the suit with extra material that I can have trimmed and re-purposed, but I'm not sure how to tackle it. Should I have a tailor add a big patch in the crotch? Should I take out the shoulders? Would either actually work?
