Maitlands costumes from Beetlejuice 1988.

Hi everyone, i have spent 2 weeks making this handmade latex masks of the Maitlands (death couple from the Beetlejuice movie).
I never get tired of seeing this movie, over and over again... so i wanted to recreate the characters on the right proportion of those pretty big heads. Also i had search on the web and find many versions of this costumes. Finally, i was prepared to begin this process.
I had started the sculp directly on my head, cardboard and paper tape, then when finished the structure, then few layers of latex skin. This was my first attempt at making this masks, but i have learned a lot about latex and paintwork on the making. For the eyes, i put a black mesh in the back to see through , this was to much fun! I am really proud of the whole look.

Here, some pics of my girlfriend and i, with the costumes we use, at the costume party in a festival on Paraná (Argentina).

Three dark knights by Halloween (Pic Heavy)

Ok, here goes. I have been a member of The RPF for a while now but have not posted much. Please forgive me if I commit any RPF sins. I not exactly sure how all the posting things are supposed to work.

Last christmas I promised three friends of mine I would make them Dark Knights for this years Christmas. I have been gathering materials (also a lot of procrastination)and now its time for the big push. They all live in different town so there will be no duplicates at the same party.

I work as a graphic designer so I have been tracing the suit from reference photos and from Sonjou ( http://www.therpf.com/f24/tdk-foam-p...-heavy-139619/ ) templates. I soon realized it was easier to create my own for what I was doing but I don't want to short anybody on credit because it was used for reference.

The plan is to scuplt the suit armor using monster clay and plastilin clay. Make the mold out of ultracal and the amor pieces will be made of latex. (Sorry I am not up on the sculpture lingo).Click image for larger version.

Still looking for a movie accurate woven sash belt - basically all the belts except for the hairpipe beaded one. Still need the knives. Need to make the other pouch. Need to make screen accurate moccasins. I also need to figure out how to correctly do the make-up. Need the charm at the bottom of the chest piece.

Images can be found easily through search and I have some referenced to provide as well. If interested please private message me.

Well I have 34 days to finish these costumes for NYC in October. Cullen Cosplay did the blue beetle but I still have to add the lights to the cannon. My two friends will be wearing green and black beetle and if anyone isn't familiar, these characters are from young justice. I am wearing blue beetle and my wife is wearing a tigress costume. We still have a lot to do but it will be done.

Thor Frog helmet. Foam/Bondo Help

$

I am beginner and have started working on this Thor frog aka Throg helmet for my costume.

My question is: Can I spread Bondo over the Spray insulation foam that I've already carved out? Will it eat through expanding foam?

Should I use a sealer in-between the foam and Bondo? Fiberglass resin? Gesso paint?

I just want to smooth out the shape a little so I can begin painting the head. Maybe there is something else I can use instead.
If this is not the place to ask questions, I apologize.

Jurassic Park Security/Raptor Push Team

Hey everyone, just joined RPF not too long ago and I'd thought I'd post my latest costume. It didn't take much I started out with a navy blue BDU outfit, a black tactical vest, and dummy grenades that I bought at a local army surplus store, a JP patch, then the black military boots that I use for my ghostbusters costume. The "work" if you call it that only went into the hard hat, and sewing the patch. The helmet took me a few tries to get the shape I wanted on the styrene plastic. I compared it to a vinyl sticker I bought at Fandom Fest in Louisville, then drew a pencil outline and cut it out. After that was done I had a couple small screws aI bought at Home Depot and put it in. Most people are still arguing which color the hard hat was in the movie. Red or orange? I went with orange because it just seemed orange to me in most shots. I bought the helmet from: http://www.safetycompany.com/product...uspension.html I bought the InGen patch from a guy on ebay, the security guard badge I believe I found on here about 6 months ago. Very well done. I had that printed off and I laminated it. Then the pistol, and SCAR I use in airsoft games. Just wanting to see what everybody thought about the costume, and if there was anything that might make it a little better.

I'm also doing a Dennis Nedry outfit already have the raincoat made except I forgot the white borderline around the JP logo. So I might just use this for work! Anybody know of someone who can do a cryo can? I've looked on ebay and there is a guy wanting about 800. Which is pretty ridiculous. I could understand paying 100 to 200 tops.

Hi everyone!
Do you still use Plati Dip to coat your foam pieces? Will it make the foam harder? (I'll use it for an Iron Man armor)
Is there any difference between the black and the red version? (linked to amazon)

After having some success with my son's MK 6 I wanted to build one for me. I have to give a big shout out to Stealth Cosplay for all his videos and inspiration on this build. I found that this new method saved me a ton of time. I hope to have this done for Halloween so my son and I can go Trick or Treat with them both on, I just have to redo his legs and abs due to him growing.
But here are some pics of what I have so far.....

Far from accurate, but still good to see some official BTTF costume merchandise. Some of it might be good alternative for the time being if the real ones are hard to come by.

Check out the links for more close up shots. They are new products listings, so they will likely be in stock in the coming weeks.

Hey Guys,

This is my first post on the RPF, although I found out I have been found in photos on this site before for my costumes :D http://www.therpf.com/f24/starkiller...-thread-99201/

I made this costume for Star Wars Celebration VI and won first place in my Category (Galactic apparel).
Although this costume is mostly complete, I still feel the need to adjust certain details and/or make them more screen accurate.

Goggles, The band on the hat, the hat itself, Gauntlets, and some glowing details.

My Doctor Who Vashta Nerada Cosplay Build Thread (Image Heavy)

Being a huge fan of Doctor Who I've always wanted to do a Cosplay and make it one I haven't seen much of at DragonCon so I figured why not give the Vashta Nerada a try.

This is my first full costume involving creating the major pieces from scratch instead of just acquiring the proper pieces like my Stargate SG-1 Off World costume. I've learned a lot during this build and want to thank everyone that posted advice, How To links, and Videos on Pep, Resin, and Bondo.

I started out looking in the Doctor Who Pepakura Thread but the Vashta Nerada files listed on the first page are no longer available so I kept digging. I eventually found a set here: vashtaneradasuit correct scale - Download - 4shared - Hell brell

The printed plans resulted in 36 pages. I used 100# card stock. After many many hours of cutting out pieces I was finally able to start assembling.

I used SuperGlue for my assembly and in hind sight that probably wasn't the best idea. I'll probably use low-temp hot glue in the future.

Once I had the pepakura model made it was time to move on to the resin and fiberglass phase

Next was the Bondo Phase. I've never worked with Bondo before so it was definitely interesting. My initial application leaves a LOT to be desired but the sander helped clean up my messy work.

I then moved on to Rondo the insides of both pieces. I'm not sure if I should have Rondo'd first or Fiberglassed first. I did a layer of Resin, then Fiberglassed and then Rondo'd the inside.

The bottom of the Helmet was rather weak so I got a piece of plexiglass and cut a rim out and then used Resin to secure it to the Helmet base.

Outside of both pieces was a few layers of Resin followed by Bondo and TONS of sanding and reapplying.

Once I had it "good enough" (DragonCon was looming closer and closer) It was time to paint. The inside of the helm got a Flat Black and the outside got Gloss White

After I got it painted it was time to work on the electronics. I'll post the electronics schematics and pics in the next thread.

I spent lots of time searching for "white work gloves" to use with this costume and found a pair that would get the job done (Harbor Freight $1.99 Goatskin Driving Gloves) then on the Monday before DragonCon I woke up from a dead slumber around 3a with an epiphany. Work Gloves was the wrong thing to think of. SKI GLOVES! I then searched and found a Seirus Innovation Men's Whistler Glove pair that looked perfect. Bonus: They were on sale for $14.97 and shipped Prime. (NOTE: Apparently the sale is over, they show $69.99 now. OUCH!)

I ordered a pair of Kamik Men's Lunar Insulated Boots for $29.96 but they only came in Black. A few coats of White PlastiDip and they became perfect. My lovely wife Jessica helped with all the painting.

I didn't have the budget for the Sparco Formula-1 Racing Suit that they used in the episode so I searched for something that could pass for it with some modification. I found a candidate at All Seasons Uniforms Men's 100% Cotton White Coverall

Again, my lovely wife to the rescue. She removed the pockets and crafted up some shoulder pieces to mimic the suit used on screen. She then used Fine Tipped Sharpies to color all the thread lines and then add more in the open areas to match what we saw in the pics I found.

I found a $9.99 skull mask at a local Spirits Halloween (lucky timing since they aren't around Nov-mid July) and overall I think it pulls off what I was trying to accomplish.

I took Scariest Villain in the DragonCon Doctor Who BritTrack 50th Anniversary Ball Costume Contest and lost track of how many people took pictures of me. If you see this costume around on the internet please let me know. :D
