Hi everyone! I've put this off way too long but finally I get to show you my Mk VI suit! I know everyone yawns when they see that so its my goal to only include the things you haven't seen yet (or things I wanted to add on to). Also, this is my first time working with foam and my first full body suit so please, tell me what you think!

Here is a few shots of my final product:

Distress Jack Sparrow Hat Help!

$

Hello all! Halloween is getting closer and I am planning on going this year as the good ole Captain. I just ordered his hat from amazon. Good buy for a good price. I think it looks great...except its too darn clean looking for the adventurous Jack. It is made from 100 percent polyester and I am not sure how to "dirty" up. I looked at the Jack Sparrow wiki and all I found was just ways to make one out of leather. Anyone here know how to distress a cheapie hat???
Here's a photos of said product! Please help the captain out!!! I can't have him looking squeaky clean!!:facepalm

Can someone point me to Pepakura files for Nova and Starlord that aren't attached to questionable download sites? The last one I found on RPF had the file as part of an .exe file and I won't run it.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello,
I'm looking for a commissioner who can make me a pair of faux leather knee high boots.
The only thing is that it will need a zipper so that it can be very fitted around my ankles and legs.

Here is what they look like

My deadline is around mid October (14-18th) so I can use these for a con at the end of the month.

Please PM if you are interested.

thank you!

Red Hood - My first scratch built costume

Hey all and thanks for checking this out.

Inspired by this thread(http://www.therpf.com/f24/budget-bat...e-suit-191262/) I decided to use the same method to make myself a Red Hood helm for this years Halloween costume. So far I have the paper mask pictured below, cardstock, duct tape, resin and fiberglass cloth.

The plan is to freehand the rest of the helmet using the mask as a base. Now my question to all of you(probably the one dude looking at this) is which one do I make? I was thinking of doing the one with just eyeholes and covering the rest of the face, but there's always the helm with the nose and mouth too. What do people prefer?

As stated I'm leaning towards the eye's only style based on personal preference but let me know what y'all think.

Foam cutting and foam coating

$

Hi all, while I have been on the forum for years, I am rather quite. I am finally starting an ironman foam build after years of looking and just wishing I had one.

With all that said, one thing I have been looking at is the cutting if foam. Using scissors usually makes for not the smoothest edges. Using razor knifes or blades eats them up and takes lots of work.

So tonight, I thought I would try something different. I went out to the garage and grabbed some 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch EVA foam. I then went over to the bandsaw and found that my standard wood blade just cuts the foam like butter.

So as I start the build, I will post pics, but could not believe just how smooth and clean the lines were. Also, because its adjustable, I can do angle cuts. Not to mention, it cuts so smooth, that you can trim the slightest edges off.

I do want to thank everyone who posts on this site, without you, I would not be building at all.

Another thing just to bring up. I know there have been multiple posts on sealing, coating, covering foam. While I do not have time this season to do it, something I want to try is worbla. It's a plastic coating that you heat and form and can do over foam. Just wondering if anyone else has tried worbla coating over foam to give it some hard covering?

Wil be posting soon. Again thank you all for all the tutorials.

Still working on my SM build and I need a little assistance in mounting my shoulders to the chest. Ive looked at preludes and don't get how he did his, and I don't have a 3d printer to do it stilgens way. If anyone can send me some pics and info that would be outstanding. . If I get the shoulders mounting the main build will be finished and I can start on the details.

I have till March 22, 2014 to finish. Its appearance will be at Mega-con Orlando 2014. ( I have the tickets )

TSSY2005 Star Trek Nemesis-style costume

$

Hey, guys... has anybody purchased a Star Trek Nemesis-style costume from the eBay seller TSSY2005? I'm looking for a decent uniform for Halloween, and a more expensive (yet probably more screen-accurate) costume just isn't in my budget. (I know accuracy and price are usually a tradeoff.)

I'm not sure if we're allowed to post images that aren't our own (from auctions and such), so I won't include any here. But based on the photos on eBay, the costume looks relatively good, although the cuffs are way off. Maybe I can see if they can tweak those a bit.

So can anybody offer any opinions on TSSY2005? Are they comparable to Cosplaysky or Skycostumes? Are they all pretty much the same? I really appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Thanks, guys!

Iron Man Mark VI. First Build Progress With Pictures.

Hey there! So I have been wanting to do this for a very long time and finally have the time/money now to do so. This is my first attempt at building armor so don't laugh too hard at me. Of course, the armor that I chose to build would be the Iron Man Mark VI. After days of researching what material I should use for what, I finally decided to go with 1/4" EVA Foam for the entire build and for any light work I'll be using 5mm LED's.

I have never used or even heard of the program Pepakura or how to use it. Luckily it was very easy to understand. My next fear was having to rescale pieces. So what I did was build the neck/helmet out of poster board to make sure they will fit before wasting any foam. This is what I came up with.

I guess I'm just lucky because it does fit perfectly!
The next step was the scary one... Build my first piece out of foam.

Luckily it turned out pretty good!
After the neck/helmet was built out of foam I thought to myself, this could actually turn out really well. So I kept building!
What I did next was construct a duct tape mannequin, well half of one, to build the rest of the upper body.
Here is the bracer/neck.

After completing those two things I moved on to the chest. After building the chest I went ahead and placed 10 5mm LED's in the center and wired all to a single 9v battery connector to light it up.

Tony Stark Flight Configuration cosplay (From Aluminum and other metals)

$

So, to start, this IS NOT an Iron man suit, it's a Tony Stark cosplay, which is different. I'm building the flight rig or "Mech Tech" he made in the first movie before assembeling the mark 2. This means two full arm pieces, an arc reactor, and two boots. Here's a reference picture:

For this cosplay, I wanted to use all metals and authentic materials, no paint or plastics, but rather what they actually used to make the movie prop. From referencing screen shots, it's easy to tell that the main skeleton metal material is aluminum (by the color) so I started out by making a simple arm brace. All of the metal shaping was done with a vice and a hammer, and most pieces where then hand sanded.

It's worth noting at this point that I'm not going for 100% accuracy, as I don't have access to a milling or CNC machine to have custom parts cut out, so where as the real design uses more complex angels and generally a fancier design, my version will be somewhat more streamlined, but still full of accurate detail.
Satisfied with how the gauntlet piece fit, I started on an upper arm plate.

I haven't posted in a while, but I wanted to post what I've been up to with this build. i've found a don post head reveal, and I also went and bought one of the newer licensed masks to use the latex piece, which also has a nice head detailing. it fits nicely with my helmet and it also is way more comfy! I think I'll be using that instead of the whole resin helmet setup.
and the rest of the body will be done with the amazing pepakura files made by laellee

Hi all, I'm new here but I've been working on a space marine armor for a while and wanted to make an iron man helmet for my son. I looked at alot of the unfolds here and they are all pretty complex for me to make for a 4 year old. :) Hoping someone has something a little simpler that I could use to make his day. Thanks in advance.

First Time Iron Patriot Foam Build

Hey guys and girls, This is my first time doing anything like this. This all started when my son got into Iron Man, So if my son wants me to be Iron Man for Halloween, then I will be Iron Man. So far its been a month and 1 week since I have started. The suit is 99% done, just need to make the cannon. I am also having a bit of a problem with the paint. I did the whole 5 layers of PVA glue and 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of paint. On some parts it looks really good, but on other parts the paint looks as it has no shine. especially the red looks pink on some parts. Doing a re primer on those parts to see if it will fix it if not I have no idea what to do. Any tips will be appreciated.

Tusken Raider Costume Questions

I plan on making a Tusken Raider costume and I was just wondering what material most people use for the inner robe, outer robe and bandages and how much you would need? Also I heard that tea dying is the best way to get a 'weathered kind of look'. Does anyone have any tips on that or any other suggestions for weathering? i have sewing experience but I do not own a sewing machine, would there be a sewing machine for around $200 or less just for beginners? Sorry about all the questions haha.

I'm thinking of doing the helmet as a clay base and then paper mache over it to create the face mask. Is this a good idea or would it be easier/cheaper to buy a kit?

I started building a rifle last weekend (bare in mind I am only 14). I still have to add the details for the stock of the rifle. Also the trigger guard and maybe some more weathering for the stock. Please tell me what you think of it, and if I need to change anything.

One or 2 moulding questions before diving in

. Im almost ready to have a trial at moulding. Have an iron man faceplate from a helmet I built but not happy with. But thought id try with the faceplate moulding for next time. Do I need release agent between the silisone and fibreglass jacket when im making the jacket? And do I need release agent for the silicone mould before pouring easyflo 120 in. Iv researched but I only find general answers. Like silicone doesnt need release agent etc.
But it doesnt say weather for moulding new helmet OR for creating the jacket.

Getting Supplies in London?

I started an Iron man helmet pep a while ago, and I've been waiting until I had some money to start the fiberglass and bondo stage. But now that I have money, I'm having a hard time finding places to buy supplies in central London.

Does anybody know some good places, either hardware shops or online stores, where I can get things like bondo and fiberglass resin?
