[Team Fortress 2] Scout Replica Costume

$

This is the first thread I've ever done. I've been on this forum many times before, mainly for the BTTF stuff, and know how the RPF works. This summer Comic Con is here in Denver and I would like to be the Scout from TF2. I would like some ideas for this costume, stuff like where to get a cheap dark grey tracksuit pants, or a black speaker bag. Any suggestions would help a ton. I am aware that i could commission some one to build me something, so on that note i would like to commission someone to build me a 1:1 scale replica of the Scouts primary weapon the Scatter Gun. I would like it to be something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlVbqkR-e2E with the magnets and everything, if you want to go the extra mile you could even put the gun sound effects in whenever you pull the trigger. I would like this to be of high quality like in the video above. I'm looking to spend somewhere around $60 to $80 for this commission. Like i said above this is my first thread and any suggestions would help a lot, Thanks. Here is a picture reference to the Scout http://tf2wiki.net/w/images/c/c9/Scouttaunt3.PNG and the Scatter Gun http://www.tfportal.de/gfx/items/large/scattergun.png

Update #1

After doing a little research, I found out that the scout wears a Black Cadet hat. I found this at Walmart for $10, this was the closest thing I could find to the actual in-game hat.

Chainmail Help!!!

Hi everyone! I got early notice for a renaissance fair this summer and so... I though I'd throw together a Monty Python Black Knight costume! So, upon closer examination, he has helmet/neck chainmail and what looks like a long sleeve shirt and pants of the same. Click image for larger version.

If anyone has a link for cheap imitation chainmail gear that'd be great! If not, any help with throwing something cheap together would be helpful too!
Thanks for looking!

Hi all building a Life-size hunter just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for someone/company that makes Hunter Chest armour?

10th Doctor suit from jamesbondsuits.com

(First of all, this is the first thread I have started here, so please feel free to have it moved, if this isn't the right place for it!)

So, hello all!
I am in the middle of upgrading my 10th Doctor cosplay and I needed a new suit. The blue one I have is from hellocosplay.com, and it is clearly a costume, not a suit. So I looked around and found Magnoli (perfect, but expensive) and Jamesbondsuits.com aka. Jbsuits.com. They costum make it to your specifications, and are 199$ per suit, but I could only find the reviews on the page itself, and they all had small errors that made me worry, and one guy on another forum, who said that his black suit was nice, but had too long sleeves. But I figured, what the heck, and I tried to order a brown suit, because it was the only one that had actual pictures, and not just stock photos. After I had ordered it, I started to worry. A lot. They didn't seem trustworthy, and I even found a page mentioning credit card fraud. After weeks of waiting I got a mail from the Amanda person a lot of the reviews mentioned (another thing that felt suspicious) asking for pictures of me. I am very tall and thin, so they just needed to make sure that the measurements I had sent were right. I sent a front and a side pic, and fast forward three-ish weeks later, I get a shipping notice from dhl (I think) saying that my packar had been picked up in Pakistan. Now, I now that the page says that they have it made "over seas" but that really made me nervous!! Anyway, five days later, I receive it, and lucky me, it is actually okay! :-) not too thin, doesn't feel like a costume, and fits! The costumes I have, made to measure, all have too tight pants, and the blue suit (costume) I have, I had to sew in the back to make smaller, and move the buttons :-/
But this actually is a suit, suit, and not just a costume, suit. A thing I noticed is the lining. It is nice and everything, but it has the logo for "Gnious" all over it. Upside down. It can't be seen when you wear it, but it is a little weird. For people who don't know Gnious, it is a cheaper brand, but it is still good quality :-) all pockets work and there is even buttons for suspenders :-P

I will upload pictures of the suit later, and tomorrow I will have my girlfriend take some pictures of me in it, so if anyone has requests, things they would like a closer look at or anything, please ask!

And also please be aware when buying. I would hate to give a website a "good" review, and then have someone buy from them and get ripped off :-/

Lastly, let me just apologize for any errors I may have made. Having pointed out the suspicious errors on their page, I would hate to be suspected of being "one of them" due to English being my second language, and also due to iPhone spellcheck ;-)

Costs of 3D print Ironman helmet

$

I want to get my hands on an Iron Man helmet for Holloween this year.. I have tried to make one from pepakura, but it turnes out that making stuff like that is NOT my thing... So I'm gonna try to find a 3D printed helmet, that I can just prime, fill with fiberglass, paint and put in electronics... no pep files or Bondo a.s.o.

So I was wondering... to you out there that owns a 3D printer... what are the costs in material to print out the parts for a helmet? Faceplate, front and back piece?

Thanks for reading :)

Missy's Hat from Doctor Who Season 8

Started with a black straw hat from Etsy seller Haute Head Designs which was labeled "San Diego Hat Co". Removed the bow, and steamed it into the right shape, then a lot hot gluing silk flowers and cherries (which I custom painted) and now it's done! Well, I SAY done, I actually am waiting for the daisies to come in the mail.

MTAC 2015 - Unlce Iroh WIP

$

I've been working on this one off and on for about six months, but with MTAC just around the corner it's time to buckle down and get this one finished. If it turns out good, I may even wear it to Dragon Con. Feel free to offer advice or critique. I'm always looking to improve. It's one of the reasons I came to this forum. Now, for those who don't know, here he is... The man; the Dragon...

Uncle Iroh! As you can see from my profile pic, I like cosplaying larger characters like myself. I don't feel like they get enough love.

So, on to the WIP:

After piddling around with this costume for a while I realized that a mannequin would be extremely helpful for sewing the robe and sizing the armour. So I tackled that one recently.

Three rolls of duct tape, a year's collection of grocery bags, scrap bed skirt, floral table cover and more went into making my plus size mannequin, but I think it was well worth the effort. With that done I moved on to his robe. He had a couple of scenes without his armour on that I'm going by.

So far so good, but still trying to decide which yellow looks better for the trim. The lighter one seems to fit better in my opinion, so that'll be top priority tomorrow.

Because of the time involved, I've also been working on his sideburns a little at a time. Yep, doin' this one by hand, but I'm really close to done. After that it'll be time to move on to the half bald wig. Which brings me to one of the reasons I made this thread. My idea to pull off a more convincing half bald hairstyle is to wear a properly blended bald cap, then attach the wig with something like spirit gum. I was hoping I would get some input from others who've tackled similar FX makeup challenges. Maybe someone out there knows a better way to pull off the effect I'm going for.

That's all for now, looking forward to tackling the armour once the robe's done.

Fallout Legion Decanus Helmet + Legion Recruit/Decanus Armor

$

I've committed many sins in my life but none like this: I'm currently favoring my Legion Fallout projects far above my others. It's pretty bad as I still have my half finished t-45d sitting in my closet, and my MK Original Vests in need of sewing.

That being said, I'm having a real kick out of this project. I've always felt like the Legion Decanus armor was my favorite next to the Centurion, especially the cool Leather Baseball/Cap Helmet with the facemask and goggles: real edgy. Anyway, we have our next Radiation Canyon coming up and since I'm also working on Legion Recruit armor I decided to also build a Decanus helmet for one of my minions to wear.

The feathers are now nearly half done, and sticking nicely. I'd also like to note that it was my intention to make this look like an old baseball helmet that had been hastily covered in leather scraps, and give it a nice wasteland feel. After this, I'll scuff up the helmet,, glue on the facemask, and give it some desert weathering via spraypaint.

Budget Nostromo crew uniform

$

I'm assembling a low-bucks Nostromo crew uniform, starting with these pants: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. They're not screen-accurate, of course, but pretty good for an off-the-shelf item.

They arrived yesterday. The good news is: they're heavy soft cotton, fit well, feel comfortable, look good (IMHO), and appear to be decent quality. The bad news is: they're way darker than the sample photo. I think I'll have to lighten them, possibly with bleach or white Rit. What are you thoughts on either of those methods? Or do you have other suggestions? Is bleach likely to weaken this cotton fabric?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

Soo I'm really bad at taking progress pictures for builds I do and my thing this year is to correct that. That being said I'm starting with this one.

Right now I have the mask done/printed out and all the 3D parts ready for printing. Here is where we are at:

Question on Jack Sparrow CABoots (Standard or Custom)

$

Just wondering if anyone here can offer advice on the above boots.

I've been looking to getting a pair of these boots for a little while now but with the cost in mind and the fact that I'm based in the UK (They're based in the US) I want to make the right choice.

Caboots make two versions. The standard and the custom. I have the following questions.

1) Are the two visually the same? I have heard tales that the bell cuffs on the standard version aren't cut at an angle or have as much flare.
2) If buying the custom boots what options should I choose for the most screen accurate.
3) If you've bought either boot. Which did you buy and what did you think (any photos would be a great help).

I've contacted CABoots who said that both are accurate but the customs allow me to play with the options.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I just saw this online for $200.00... Is it me or does it seems to be a close match? I mean I know there's no Movie stars lining, but the colors look really close.

Galadriel Armor - concept design from The Hobbit

$

I've costumed Galadriel for over 10 years, but my favorite builds have always been armor. So when I heard they were putting Dol Guldur in the movie my hopes sprang that MAYBE I would see Galadriel in armor - sadly it was not to be so. The movie makers decided to put her barefoot in lace and silks...

However, when Daniel' Falconer's Concept Design book came out for the final Hobbit movie in it was his first take on the costume for that scene that they did not use.

Design by Daniel Falconer - from Weta Workshop in the book "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies Chronicles Art & Design" Written By Daniel Falconer Pg 48

It is gorgeous and better than I imagined it could be (not surprising, as Daniel himself designed it and I've always had an affinity for his work (Haldir and Eomer are my other two favorites that I made) - so, I was even more disappointed that it did not end up on screen.

But why sit with that disappointment? Why not MAKE it happen and bring it into existence myself. And since I am going to Dcon this year - and have the time and amazingly, the $$ to make it happen - it is a perfect storm.

So, despite the fact that maybe only a handful of people will have any clue who I am supposed to be, I went ahead and bought the metal scales from RingLord yesterday. 4500... Let's do this.

Mass Effect 2/3 Blood Dragon Armor - Pepakura

$

This year I'm going to take on building the Blood Dragon Armor from Mass effect. This is the first full armor build I have done so we will see how crazy this can get. I started the build back in October and have been working on it off and on since then getting the parts constructed and then waiting for the weather to be nice to work out in the garage(must clean space first). Something new that I'm using this time around from when i built my Proton pack and Cyclops visor is a Silhouette Cameo for cutting all my parts out instead of by hand, which will save me a tremendous amount of time and I can concentrate on just building. Also No edge Id's, line colors to indicate valley/folds, and working solely from the model. Thank you Darhood for the pep files and Zero-Sama for the unfolding, however for my build purposes I am redoing all the unfolding specifically for better part layout as well as to work with the cameo. I am also reworking the shin piece because......it just doesn't look right to me with that large gap between the knee and shoe(picture for reference)

So far I have completed the helmet which was started before I bought the cameo so it has edge id's and the chest armor(minus attaching the neck part and gluing the circle on the back down). I did have to start the chest over again due to sizing issues, thought I had done it correctly but was off by about 2 inches. There will still need to be some tweaking so it first comfortably but that it is close enough i can move forward. I did use some aluminum duct tape to re-enforce areas that i felt needed some extra attention so to not warp or tear while building.

I believe I will start reconfiguring the shoulder or bracer file next.
