Walking Dead (Rick Grimes) Season 3 (2-4 eventually)

Hello all,

Obviously, I am a big fan of the show and comic, but it wasn't until recently when I let my beard and hair grow out a little that people started telling me "you look like Rick Grimes", so I thought about giving it a shot and of course I came here. Admittedly, I am normally a Star Wars costumer, but after looking at the threads here by some great costumers (HakSawJak, ThinkBug, Sir Angus, etc.), I was able to do this one pretty easy and not too expensive. I started with the Season 3 "capturing and clearing the prison" version of Rick, but plan to pick up parts here and there to eventually be able to do Seasons 2-4 depending on my hair & beard at any given time. I bought a lot of eBay and didn't expect it to come in so soon, but it all arrived last week so I threw it together to do a convention this weekend where my buddy's son was going to be Carl. We had a lot of fun and ended up getting 2nd place in the costume contest so its a good start at least, lol.

I will have to add pictures later as I am posting this from work and don't have access to them right now. But here is a run down of my parts and where I got them. Please feel free to critique, offer constructive criticism, etc...

Thanks for looking. :)

Boots: the actual ones are the Justin 2222, I am wearing Justin's, just a different model that look the exact same to me. I picked these up off eBay for around $80 shipped.

Pants: I've read the actual ones are Levi's 511 (Black tag). I went to JC. Penny ($45) and picked this exact model up although they seema little tight in the legs so I am not sure if I just need to over-size for the right look or if we got the model wrong?

Duty Belt: All off ebay using "Vintage Basketweave Duty Belt" keywords. My current configuration is a Swivel holster, Handcuff case, 2 speedloaders, and key holder. I plan to get the radio and holder for earlier stuff.

Shirt: Ebay using tan or Khaki Mens western shirt.

Gun: Currently using a western gun prop that I had on hand from a Halloween costume 15 years ago. I have the Zombie Killer waiting on backorder from Blazing Toys.

Watch: He uses the KC3584 which I haven't been able to find, but I did pick up the KC 9306 which is really close (especially in pictures).

Machette: Rick Grimes TWD prop that came out around Halloween. It's CON -safe and 30" long. Loos good in pictures though. I also have the real one from Harbor frieght that I plan to Red Tape the handle on, but it isn't exactly Convention friendly.

Future: Season 2 & 4 coats, accurate knife, more western shirts for variety.

Elysium Kruger Exosuit fabric help

$

Hey guys,

I recently started building Kruger's Exosuit for cosplay but I'm having hard time finding a suitable fabric for the abdomen piece. It's the sort of breathing mesh you can find on backpack backs. I've tried several stores that sell fabric online, but I can't find even remotely the right color. If anyone knows of a source where I could get this kind of mesh in this color I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

My Pepakura projects.

Hi everyone,

A while ago I made a pepakura helmet for my Iron man mark 7 build, but it stayed in card stock form.

Well now that I am going to make more helmets, I finished it and added the supports to use it as a test for resin, because I have never used resin or fiberglass before.

I also pepped a Halo spartan (master chief) helmet, and I'm working on a few others.

I did the first coat of resin on the Iron Man helmet today. I think I accidentally mixed it hot, because I was having trouble getting the hardener tube open, and then more hardener than I expected came out.

I did measure out 1 ounce of resin, though, and I tried to put about 10 drops of hardener in.

I'll try to have pictures up soon.

P. S. I wasn't sure if I should out this in the Marvel section or not because it has multiple kinds of helmets.

Queen Ravenna - Snow White and the Huntsman

Hi Guys,
Long time lurker and fan, some of my work has been kindly shared on the RPF Facebook page before so I thought it was about time I shared my work on here. The first costume I'd like to share is my Queen Ravenna, I made this in the summer of 2013 as my qualifying costume for the European Cosplay Gathering in the UK (I'll share my winning costume in the finals, Black Widow, in another thread). I would change a of things about this costume now as I've continued to learn but its still one of my favourite outfits.
There are a lot more photos of my costumes on my Facebook Page

The first piece I started on was the crown. Its constructed out of styrene sheet, then covered in filler, sanded, 2 pac primed, more filler, sanding etc... The rivet details were fast cast half spheres I cast out and glued on (I think with death glue). Painting was a bit of a 'see what happens' process using a mixture of silver spray, hammerite, ageing spray, silver finger and sanding with some dark details added and rubbed in. Finally a sporadic layer of gloss was puffed over random areas to give it a beaten metal appearance.
The chains hanging from the crown were clamped with a loop that was then threaded through a wire and glued onto the inside of the crown - they're surprisingly strong on there.

For the forehead piece I sculpted it flat on a sheet of styrene after a lot of fiddling with the size and pattern before creating a silicone block mould of my sculpt.
The next step was a bit of a stab in the dark as to whether it would work or not, with me pouring fast cast into the mould and just as it started to harden I pulled it out of the mould and shaped it against my forehead (queue stupid photo of me!) Amazingly this worked and anything else shape wise I wanted to alter I could do with a heat gun. After cleaning it up it had a similar paint finish to the crown and magnets attached to the ends which clamped on to coinciding ones in the wig.

My wig for Ravenna was a lace front with a really beautiful natural achey blonde colour. It was quite hard to figure out what happens at the back of her hair though, as there are barely any shots of it so I took a little bit of artistic license with some of the braids.

This is the base of my corset for Ravenna and my second attempt at making it. I drafted a corset pattern using my measurements and adapted it to an 18th C style, dividing each half into 4 parts. Figuring out where all the bones would go and also support the tabs that I had added was quite a lengthy challenge!

The corset was made up of a heavy silk outer layer and silk lining. The chains were all hand stitched on (took ages) and the hunt for those metal leaves took a life time but eventually I found some I was happy with. The skulls and large beads were all cast out especially for this corset as I couldn't find anything that matched.

After a lot of squinting at her corset I decided the beads looked like vintage coiled rope buttons. I found a pair of earrings on eBay that perfectly matched them so I decided it would be cheaper for me to just buy those and block mould them so I could cast as many buttons as I needed.I sprayed them all black and then dry brushed some silver over them to pick up the highlighted rope detail.

Skulls! Gotta give a big thanks to my co-worker and friend miss Emily Pooley for doing a scaled down crow skull for me. I gave her a real skull (that were all far too big for the corset) and she created a beautiful scale model for me, which I then did a silicone block mould for and cast out in fast cast. They barely need any tidying up, just a few holes drilled in and a puff of white primer and clear lacquer.

The skirts were made up of a hoop skirt, petticoat and then a silver silk pleated layer and a black chiffon with a lot of time spent on hand rolling all the hems.

Sleeves!Organza silk base with a structural/decorative seam in the middle. Then lots of hand dyed/aged lace, cut, pinned and hand sewn onto the base of the sleeve.
All sewn up together and all the lace meets perfectly along the seam hurray! There was also a button sewn along each line of lace. The puff sleeves are silk organza. There's then a long flowing sleeve attached made of chiffon and a lot of beads... All the sleeve components are sewn onto the corset, so everything is just in two parts of top and bottom.

And then voila! You can see more about this costume on my Facebook page I've made an album dedicated to it here

Hi, I'm planning to do an Ironman-Baymax hybrid armor. Visor will be gold tinted. All purple color will be silver/gold. There will be an arc reactor on the chest as well as repulsor on the palm. And since the body & arms are not proportional, I have to design a mechanically controlled hands & fingers. The suit must be equipped with internal harness system in order to don it properly. The boots interior will be raised a few inches to give a big robot effect.
This is also the first pepakura to foam conversion that I made based on file from Necrosster at pepakura.ru. I've completed the whole conversion but only manage to pep the shoulders at the time being. I'm sharing the file here at link below. The parts are arranged to fit A4 paper hence you've got to assemble it as shown in one of the photos here. The helmet is 3D printed, got no time to paint it yet. Thanks to Oscar Grespan for giving me the inspiration and sharing the file.

Left biceps completed pepping. Very easy to pep. Just need 14 pages of A4 paper to print the parts then assemble as screen below.

Star Trek: City On The Edge of Forever

I am new to the RFP and asking users if anyone has knowledge or advice on finding a suitable source for purchasing a good facsimile of the brown wool double breasted pea coat/over coat with brass buttons worn by captain Kirk over the red flannel shirt in the Original Series episode “City on the Edge of Forever” which he wore in the scene with Edith Keeler in front of Floyds Barber Shop. It looks to be circa late 1920’s as the episode was set in 1930.New York City.

Gluing Flex Foam-It! To Itself?

I'm planning on casting two pieces of a costume out of Flex Foam-It! and then attaching them together. Does anyone have any experience with permanently bonding this material to itself?

I'm casting them separately to make painting easier.

Where to find colored mirror tint film online?

Greeetings,
After many hair pulling out, I thought i would ask here on where i can find Blue mirror/chrome/reflective/one way tint film. I want to tint sun glass lenses for a costume Im working on, but cant seem to find a replicable site in the USA. I tried to call local tint shops, but I guess blue mirror tint, isnt in high demand.
Any one know of a good, reliable site in the US?

Shoe help: cuban heel AND stickout sole

Alright, so I've been looking and googling for these for a while now. It doesn't help that I don't know what that type of sole is called, so any help is appreciated.

Does anyone in here know where I can find black dress shoes with cuban heel AND that type of sole? Everything I find has only one or the other.

Any other information about these shoes are also very welcome. In case you can't tell, they're the ones from the movie The Mask, for the iconic yellow zoot suit.
