Help with Nigel Tufnel costume from Spinal Tap?

Hello there! This forum helped me out greatly in finding parts for my netflix daredevil and Steve Martin the Jerk costumes so I thought I'd ask you for a bit of advice for halloween.
I'm invited to two parties with overlap of guests so I need two costumes and one needs to be budget since I spent a bunch
getting proper clothing for the gas station The Jerk costume.
I can find the Nigel Tufnel skeleton shirt easy. Do any of you know where I can find a good Tufnel wig online?
Or any ideas for other cheap accessories I can use to make the costume pop (the stonghenge diagram maybe)?
Thanks!

My daughter is an amazing kid, she's incredibly smart and kind. She is about to finish TNG for the first time. She came to me and told me, "More than anything in the world I want to be a Starfleet Medical Officer when I grow up." I have never done cosplay before, but I hear this is the place to start. Any info or help I can get from the community will be appreciated. She is almost twelve years, 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 85 pounds and wears a size 7 women's shoe. Thanks in advance.

I've been scouring the internet for the quickest way to make this two-piece hazmat suit for halloween.

I'm new to making clothes, especially with material that's so unforgiving. I considered buying a one-piece suit and adding the details, but functionality is compromised when there's tape wrapped around my waist.

Any suggestions on how to scrap this together?

Xbalanque cosplay

Well, here's my first cosplay, I'm new in the forum so I'm not sure what to say besides the fact that, as I was going all by myself and no pockets, I couldn't take a nice picture, these are the best ones I could find, but I'll be sure to update this thread with new pictures I find. Also I guess I could ask some questions if anyone's wondering how my first cosplay went, everything was made to size, the shield was 100% wood and yes, it was heavy. The feathers were made with paper and painted, I also found this grim mariachi Loki during the first day but haven't found his name, that's why I didn't submit that picture to the page, anyways, I suppose this is too long for an introduction so I'll leave the pictures and hope it wasn't too bad!
P.S: In case someone doesn't know who I'm cosplaying as, is this character: http://orig12.deviantart.net/0992/f/...gy-d9cou06.png

Overwatch Soldier 76

Hi everyone!
So, this is my first cosplay attempt and first real post on this website, so sorry if I broke the rules somehow.
I'm working on a cosplay of Soldier 76 from Overwatch.

I already have a bunch of the pieces for it; the jacket, a set of gloves, and boots. I also have ordered a holster and some pouches.

Special note, I'm going for comfort/lastability with this cosplay, not complete accuracy. So instead of buying a set of replica gloves or faux leather and trying to make them myself, I bought a set of red Mechanix M-Pact gloves, and the boots are 5.11 8 inch ATAC's. I do plan on trying to create the greaves/shin guards with EVA foam, but that's for later and I'm sure there are guides for that stuff. I also plan on forgoing a white wig simply because it looks too fake and anime-ish.
The main things I need help with is are the biotic field canisters (the yellow things on his arm and belt), the pistol, his weird chest harness and most importantly, the visor.
For the biotic fields I was thinking about buying some film canisters and spray paining them yellow and silver. They look to be the right size, and it would be crazy simple.
For the pistol, I noticed that the one S76 carries seems to be a very VERY rough rendition of the LAPD 2019 Blaster from Blade Runner in all black. It even seems to have the little notch where the bolt is on the actual pistol.
But since since there are very few good quality renditions of that pistol that aren't catastrophically expensive, I want to go with the pistol from DOOM 2016, which also bears a similar appearance and equal badassness to S76's pistol. The only problem would be that it might not fit into a holster, since the prop is about the size of a Desert Eagle.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/4007405...ac-emg-sidearm
The other option would be my airsoft KWA USP Tactical, since I know that fits into a holster and I just love that pistol to bits. Plus, I already have it. (It's the black pistol underneath the grenade launcher) This would also be just for parties with friends, since most conventions don't allow weapons of any kind.

The harness looks to be a really simple; two hoops with a mounted pouch on each and a strap going across the back. From here, this seems to be a really unstable design, like it could slip off accidentally. Is someone familiar with a harness like the one he is wearing?
Finally, the visor. This is probably gonna be the hardest thing to do. There are pre-printed visors available on Etsy, like this one; https://www.etsy.com/listing/4664551...-shop-header-1.
I'm fairly confidant in my ability to finish it; fill in the gaps and sand it down. I also have some experience with painting props, so I think I could do that as well.
My main issue is the actual visor itself. I do want it to light up like the visor in the game, and there is this light up visor that looks great.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/2858532...-cosplay-visor
My only issue is whether or not it would fit with the 3D printed visor. Has anyone done this already? Would there be a way to rectify if they don't match up? Or should I just buy some material that I can cut to fit the visor?
Sorry for the long post, any advice is welcome!

Nom Anor, SW Crimson Empire

Good afternoon,

While I continue to upgrade my wardrobe, it has been some tyme since I have shared work on an all new costume.

In 1999 I became intrigued with the shadowy character of Nom Anor.
He first appeared in the tale of Dark Horse Comic’s Star Wars: Crimson Empire as a surprise player in the Imperial power struggle after the first fall of Emperor Palpatine. I loved the look of his organic armour and the mystery surrounding the character. I also loved the idea of sculpting the armour from head to toe, front to back even though much of it would be hidden by Nom Anor’s cloak. I felt to reveal only glimpses of the armour would add to its authenticity.

At this point the best physical reference for the Crimson Empire Nom Anor is this Star Wars Miniature from Wizards of the Coast;

I realized I might have to fill in some of the blanks as I went. In 2010. Eleven years later, I made casts of my arms and began sculpting this armour.
Here is one of my initial sketches for the torso and arms;

I make many such sketches to help me to understand the character and the build of the costume.
Unfortunately, other events and priorities meant this armour had to be put on hold. Until now;

- - - Updated - - -

Starting in this past September, 2016 I resumed work on Nom Anor. This tyme with a maquette;

I am paying close attention to the 1999 Crimson Empire Handbook illustration with each shape I sculpt.
This will be the blue print for my full sized armour.

Binding of Isaac head - what glue to use?

Hi one and all :) I'm attempting to make a Binding of Isaac head and I'm following this tutorial http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...Head/?ALLSTEPS

I couldn't find the exact foam the guy was using, I'm using this insulation foam board: http://www.diy.com/departments/jabli...m/26816_BQ.prd instead. I've already cut out the pieces I need, but I don't know what glue to use! Apparently Elmer's glue he mentions is the same as PVA or craft glue. But surely that won't hold the pieces together, heck PVA sometimes doesn't even hold paper together haha! I've been trying to do my research but it's difficult to find a UK equivalent to US glues. I don't want to use some sort of building glue because I assume it'd be of the toxic variety - and considering I'd be wearing the darn thing over my head, kind of don't want to be breathing in toxic fumes! And of course, need something that wouldn't melt the EPS, but apparently most glues do?

So far my only idea was to either stick to PVA glue and maybe run some wooden skewers through the sides for extra sturdiness, or maybe try this http://www.staples.co.uk/spray-mount...=297625445&m=0. I kinda have a deadline of two weeks for this, so need to step up a notch :)

Oh and does anyone know what kind of material I should go for the see through bits? Because if my calculations are right my eyes will be right where the mouth is, so I'd like to get some black see through fabric, but I don't know what fabric to look for! Will really appreciate any ideas anyone throws at me, cheers :)

Getting Sound Effects to Play with Movement?

I'm building a 9ft tall Liberty Prime costume and I want a sound effect to play each time I take a step or bend one of my arms. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this without spending hundreds of dollars on a kit? I can learn whatever is needed, so don't hold back. Thanks!

Punisher costume build (rucka/cheechoo)

Since I have been growing a beard, I decided to go with a costume that would let me keep it. I loved the Rucka punisher run and the realism he was going for.

There are some really quality builds on the forum already, and I am more of a kit-basher when it comes to costumes so will be looking to purchase/modify things versus building them from scratch. The plate carrier he is wearing in the comic is fairly plain, with one of the prime features being the straps on the sides. I looked at a number of vests and even looked at the vests from the new punisher on Netflix. In the end I found kind of a compromise between the two:

I went with this one because it had a kind of skull like look in the arrangement of the plates. I will have to remove the loops, and maybe see if I can maybe move them closer to the waist like the classic punisher outfit.

Hey, everyone, I'm new here and new to Spider-man cosplay. i recently received an RPC studio insomniac spiderman suit, its nice quality and all but it just feels very machine made and artificial. i have a friend who has some experience under his belt and is currently working on a spider-man homecoming suit. Now i have no experience and i was hoping i could have some help finding a place that makes and sells non-dye sub suits. I don't even know where to start looking or how to start looking so all help is GREATLY appreciated! price isn't an issue as long as it's under $1000 i just really want good quality. if suit specifics matter I am looking for another insomniac suit (The new spider-man ps4 suit) with puff painted webs and front and back spiders. thank you all for the help!

Halloween latex/makeup questions

Hi,
So my son's school changed the rules this year...nothing covering up the face "no masks." Wel he was going to wear a helmet that goes with the eva foam armor on his suit.
So if we were to use makeup...and or latex (another skill I need to learn....yeee!) Is there a good place to buy latex relatively inexpensively?

I see tiny bottles...but that is it....I would need to (somehow) make a jaw/mandibles (think praying mantis) and somehow ancher this around his mouth.

ANY/ALL suggestions on materials and even how to color/paint the face and prosthetic would be helpful.

Thanks!

Alien Xenomorph - My 2016 Halloween Project - Build Thread (Foam and More)

$

Hey all, thought I'd share my 2016 Halloween project here. I finally decided to do one I've been thinking about for awhile, the Alien Xenomorph. The inspiration is mainly the original Big Chap design from the 1979 film, but it's a bit of a hybrid as I'm incorporating elements from the Alien Isolation and Aliens xenos, and possibly more.

As in my past builds, the idea is to make it so I can 1. Put it on/take it off myself, 2. Function at a Halloween party (including having a drink and taking a bathroom break), 3. Get around without being an overall nuisance, and 4. Transport it if needed without taking up *too* much space. In my past builds (Gears of War, Iron Man, Groot) I have attempted this as well, although my success has been limited. :)

For obvious reasons, I started with the head. First I should mention the ideas I considered and abandoned. I wanted to do the clear dome with skull and detail underneath, but I don't have a vacuum former or experience with acrylic and I figured with the size of acrylic I would need for the xeno's giant head, this was not the time to experiment with that. I also had intended to have the inner jaw/tongue be electronically activated, with servos for the jaw. I got the wiring working, but realized I just wasn't going to make it all fit in the head I built.

The plan began with using an old bicycle helmet as the base and building the head around that. I sawed off the sides as I wanted to make it as sleek as I could and still fit on my huge noggin.

I had originally intended to have layers of insulation foam and sand it down to the shape I wanted. I then realized it would be difficult to mount the helmet in, as I would have to hollow it out as well. So I switched gears and found a pepakura file somewhere (unfortunately do not know the author) that had a good base for the top 'dome'. I switched to EVA foam, as I have a lot of the puzzle floor mats left over from previous builds. The file also had a pattern for the lower part of the head, but I didn't like the way that turned out so I only used a few pieces from that. I made my own side panels, which I based off the NECA action figure.

I added in the cheeks and lip (from the scrapped pepakura bottom piece) and the top row of teeth (from my own hand sketch).

I worked on the bottom jaw. The plan is to hinge this inside at the end. The base design is from the scrapped pepakura piece, with my own teeth and other modifications.

I added in the details to the top piece. I used a combination of different kerosene siphons for the middle assembly. The thick ridged tubing is sump pump hose... $8 for 24 feet and I'm using it in multiple spots. Also used some flex tubing, some braided cord. Some of the details aren't 100% accurate, but I feel they sell the original effect nonetheless.

I wish my dome edges had turned out a bit smoother, but I think the overall effect still works.

Tomorrow I'll post my work on the inner jaw and other pieces.

Back to the Future II HC Jacket Mods

$
0
0
So as many of you know, Halloween Costumes has an updated 2015 jacket. Overall it's not too bad for the price, but many things are just terrible if you're an avid prop maker or collector. I plan to bring the jacket to its full potential. A special thanks to other members that I will mention below for their hard work. Below I will list the mods I will do. Not in any particular order.

1. Replace the red mesh with @cavx's material that he makes himself and has for sale.

2. Shorten the jacket to be about waist high as it comes too long.

3. Make new straps and control boxes.

3. Make new pockets or modify the existing ones depending on how they are.

4. Get the arms tailored as needed.

5. Use @TheNickFox's belt and cuffs once they become available.

6. Depending on the color of the grey areas in real life, I will use black plastidip and do it very lightly to darken it.

I'm sure there are small detail things to be done, but those are the main things that need upgrading. Estimated cost is in the ballpark of $375-$400.

Jacket: $125 if it's your first order on the HC website and use the discount.

Red material: About $70. This may vary.

Belt and cuffs: $125-$150

Extra plastic/ miscellaneous pieces: $15-25
