[Question] Painting Foam / cheap tinted lense

$

Right now i am building a Power Ranger helmet - this one - and it's coming along great. My only question is painting it.

* What paint should I use?
* Do I paint the pieces before I glue them or after?
* How long should I let it dry before I can wear it?

I'm also curious about a cheep solution to using a tented lens for the lens part of the helmet. If anyone has any answers for that, I would be most thankful.

Thanks in advance

Anyone one know where I could find or at lest make with minimal sewing, something similar to the pants and jacket of the hazmat suit they wear when they go to "the upside down". The pants seem to have some kind of corrugation at the knee joints and the same for the jacket at the elbows.

I know the helmet follows the same design as the suits used in the movie Outbreak just without the grey accents. I probably will have to make that part myself.

Just something I was thinking about that many of you have probably had to make a choice about.

So you spend time and money to build a magnificent but (HUGE) Costume/Cosplay

Example my current build is Bumble (from rudolf the classic stop motion movie) and my daughter wants to be Yukon Cornelius for Halloween
she is 2 1/2 years old and 33" tall so I took a screen shot of Yukon and Bumble and scaled Yukon to 33" tall giving me a movie correct proportioned bumble to lumber around with her in.

(I will post a build thread eventually)

anyway Bumble in the real world is 7' 1" tall 3' 4 3/4" wide at the Chest with an arm span of 7 feet

the head alone came out to be 2'-4" tall.

anyway so Huge- and not my first huge Build Iv'e done a big Lego Man but he was mostly cheap cardboard so I just trashed him afterwards.

but this one is turning out to be a pretty good quality costume 3/4" L200 Foam very light weight good, shape and my wife has been sewing all the fur covering should turn out to be a pretty professional looking mascot build.

So after our local costume contest happens and Halloween I am unsure what to do with him?

1) I'd like to sell him but I am unsure of the market for a Bumble costume
2) if I just store him it will just take up space and probably never get used again
3) Scrap him out/cut him back up and have tons of scrap foam for future projects

4th option I have been thinking about is contacting our local children's medical center and see if I can donate Bumble to them either as a stationary Christmas decoration (cause he can stand on his own if you mount the feet to a board or something. or he can be worn, however they want to use him. At least then I know my efforts would still be getting some love and providing joy for some kids.

so RPF'ers what have you done with your BIG BUILDS afterwards?

Daredevil S2 - Early Frank Castle Refs Thread (PIC HEAVY)

Hi guys,

I've been trying to put together a reference list of the various parts used in Jon Bernthal's early Punisher costume in Daredevil season 2. I love the costume, it's simple, iconic and definitely feels like something Frank Castle would wear.

If you've got any information or corrections please post them in the thread.

The Jacket:

Frank wears a black M65 field jacket.I'm not sure of the specific make/model but the zippers and buttons on the jacket are black. I've purchased a few M65 jackets and all have had shiny brass hardware, so this jacket seems to be somewhat of a rarity. The jacket has a couple of patches attached to it that appear to have been overdyed black. The jacket is faded to a dark grey colour.

The Shirt & The Vest:

ID:	672374

Frank seems to exclusively wear a long-sleeved ribbed black/dark grey shirt with a crew neck. This is best seen in the episode he's kidnapped by Finn Cooley's crew.

Frank also briefly wears a 5.11 tactec plate carrier in black when attacking the Dogs of Hell, and when assaulting The Blacksmith's boat. Outside of those two scenes it's not seen in the show though, and considering the price it's not an item that will be missed too much.

The Pants, Belt And Boots:

Frank sports a pair of dark blue denim jeans, seemingly straight-cut. I think the jeans are likely Levi's but I'm not too sure. He manages to fit an ankle holster and a subcompact pistol under them in "Bang", so there are possibly multiple different types used. Frank's belt is thick leather with a rounded silver buckle.

Frank's boots are modern black patrol boots of some kind. They're not military issue. Possibly Bates boots, as used by Daredevil.

Weapons:

Frank's weapons change throughout the series. There are two different firearms used that are easy to replicate and stand out with this costume.

1911 Variant:

Size:	170.0 KB
ID:	672373

Frank uses a couple of 1911 pistols as his main sidearm throughout the show. At the carousel he carries a Para 1911 GI Expert (pictured), and during the diner scene and boat assault he appears to carry a Kimber Warrior. As a result, most 1911 variants will work just fine with this costume.

AR-15 Variant w/ Grenade Launcher:

Name:	DaredevilS2E11_05.jpg
Views:	10
Size:	210.0 KB
ID:	672372

Frank uses an AR-15 with an underslung M203 grenade launcher, aimpoint sight, no iron sights and a combination of magpul P-mags and E-mags. According to IMFDB the rifle changes during the course of the series between an M4A1 and a SIG 516 Patrol rifle. As a result, and AR platform without iron sights will work.

If anyone has any corrections or suggestions for the thread please post them below! This is by no means a perfect thread and I'd appreciate some assistance IDing the jacket, pants and boots for exact makes and models.

War Doctor Costume

Hello All,

I am currently undertaking making a War Doctor costume. I have been collecting pieces slowly over the last few weeks. So far I have the following:

Jacket: Without buying a reproduction from magnoli this was the closest that I could find. It is a "Mr. Ronald coat for Grais" $30 off ebay

Shirt: this was a $2.00 Salvation Army find...

Pants: Another Salvation Army find for $3.00, they are a dark brown wool

Material to make the Gaiters: I found this skirt at a Antique Mall for $13...It is a cotton blend but it looks and feels like suede.

I have the belt, bandoleer, Scarf, and Sonic Screwdriver in my amazon shopping cart.

Wish me luck, and thanks to everyone who has done this before me...I have already learned a lot.

John

What type of EVA Foam should I buy?

Men's Fallout 4 Vault Suit

Recently, I found out my work does a costume contest every year. Before, I was told we were just encouraged to dress up. So I was gonna just wear a set of coveralls with some yellow duct tape for the accents. Now that it's a contest, I must win. So I'm looking for a pattern to actually sew one together myself. I want something like the yaya han bodysuit pattern, but without the stretchy material.
Any advice on how to make a mends body suit out of canvas or similar would be great. Thanks everyone!

Post your info/questions on Westworld costumes here!

I saw on Reddit some people were looking for info on this character, or that character, so I figured I'd make a thread and see if anyone else was interested?

First off.

Looking for info mainly on his jacket?

Is there anything like this irl that isn't insanely customized?

Halloween Hatbox Ghost Costume

This year my eleven year old wanted to go as the Hatbox Ghost. I am making most everything from scratch or modding existing items. For his costume he will not have a head. His head will be in the Hatbox. I've started in this top hat and box for now and am missing a lab coat for his jacket.

Skyrim Glass Armor

Good evening everyone !
I recently decided to build the Glass armor from Skyrim (see the picture below). I'm doing a carved version of the actual armor (I was inspired by some texture mods...).

I'm building this entirely out of EVA foam, with a thickness of 5mm. The grey foam has a density of 100kg/m3 and the black one is 45kg/m3. I shape my foam with a hot gun, assemble the parts with hot glue, sand the edges with a Dremel tool and carve them with a woodburning tool (I don't know the exact name in English, sorry...).

I use black gesso as a primer and paint with acrylics.

Here's my reference picture:

I'm still a bit new to armored cosplays (well, not that new...), so I decided to start with something easy: the "scaled skirt thing" (if you know what I'm talking about...). I cut a bunch of little foam pieces. It took forever. I sanded them. It took even longer. Now I have to carve them (see you in ten years). I'm not going to glue them together since I want to achieve a sort of "articulated" look.
Here's a picture of some of my scales (a bunch was missing back then), just cut, before sanding them.

Batgirl pepakura help????

I've been trying to make a Batgirl cowl for my five year old daughter. I have about three or four different pepakura files I can use. I get her head measured, change the inches to mm, change the scale in pep designer and print. Ever time it comes out small enough to fit her dolls.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? This worked perfectly on a Capt America helmet I made for myself a couple days ago.

Hi All, I am A first Time buyer from Anovos. I can honestly say that I am completely unimpressed with them as a company. I have no doubt as to the quality of what they sell, but the mover all as a business, I do not like them. I have been waiting almost 3 weeks for my order just to be shipped (I am aware that others have been waiting far longer), for soething they told me last wednesday they had the shipping label printed for. now 5 days later, still no email saying its been shipped. is there an alternative to anovos? thank you in advance for your help.

The Witch King of Angmar pepakura Issues.

Hey everyone!,

I am in need of some help. I started researching pep builds for my upcoming Halloween costume and I downloaded this helm for the Witch King.

Here is a link of the helm I am talking about. http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-e...ls.php?id=1194

So I am new to all of this and have been following the rules about the mountain folds and valley folds.. I just printed everything I need on paper stock and now that i am about to starting gluing the folds I noticed that these parts seem to be folding the helm inside out. the first page in this pep build shows the folds 157 158 156 as valley but if that were the case the helm indent is going the wrong way right?

I hope I explained my problem as well as I could. Also I hope I can get the issue fixed soon. The clock is ticking!

Have a good day.
